when he takes away, he gives something back
Ang astig astig tlaga nung field trip namin sa Anilao! whoohoo!
.
First of all medjo pantay na ang tan lines ko wahahaha nag spaghetti strap kasi ako at nagbabad sa araw para magpantay naman kahit papano ang complexion ng aking shoulders sa aking arms odiba?
.
Second ang sayang mag manta tow! whoohooo It’s a thing when you’ll be dragged by a boat across a reef and you observe and stuff. Although I almost became a human anchor because I was holding the manta board the wrong way and ended up drinking lots of seawater, I still enjoyed it and I hope to do it again one day.
.
During manta tow, we were asked to differentiate dead and live corals. It was kinda hard trying to hold on to the board where you were supposed to write down data while observing the reef, keeping your snorkel above the water and avoid being dragged down by the board itself.
.
As I said I almost became a human anchor. Special Thanks to Sai for throwing me the life line when I couldn’t swim against the current after I let go of the rope.
.
Third, I also learned how to snorkel, I mean really snorkel freely. I even did a few free dives into about 10-15 feet of water. It was so cool! Hahaha Me and my groupmates were the last ones to go out of the water because we enjoyed it so much.
.
You see we were asked to make a fish survey. First we were oriented with the common reef fish and we were asked to make a census. how many fish we saw and what types. This was the most fun part because this was where I finally had the guts to swim solo without a life vest.
.
I also learned how to dive while using the snorkel whoohooo I wish I brought back some coral but I couldn’t really reach the bottom because, one, it was way too deep my legs don’t have enough strength to push me down far enough, two the current was pushing me further out to sea waaaa!
.
We spent about 3 hours just looking at fish and trying to find rare ones. despite the frigid water I remained water borne for the whole period hehehe. Nakakaadik e.
.
It’s also kinda fun and scary at the same time when you’re without a lifevest in 20-30 feet of water and you’re trying your very best to swim back to shore but the current is just preventing you to. Nyahahah.
.
And the reef fish are very cool too! I never used to appreciate reef fish and corals before I was required to make a fish and coral survey by my prof. We were actually able to name some of the fish and sort of survey the corals. We also saw some sea urchins and some of Nemo’s and Gil’s cousins.
.
And it was fun trying to swim away from the few jellyfish hahaha to think we were afraid of such small creatures.
.
I also had my battle scars. I wounded my right big toe on some wildlife that were growing out of the ladder the we use to get onto a raft in the middle of the reef.
.
Ang cool din nung mga kasama ko sa group A na supposed to be ay experienced snorkellers na pero nagpapanggap lang yung iba (ehem ako ata yun) Hehehe mejo nagpapaka elitista ata kami nun. It was cool because since we were so pro-active (word of the day) we even got a private lesson from our prof and he let us watch him free dive to the bottom (yes he did what I couldn’t whatta guy!) and point out to us the dead and live coral right before the manta tow.
.
WE’ve got really cool photos of us after the manta tow (before doing the fish census) and before going home at my photo albums. It was bad that I wasn’t able to find a waterproof camera bag, then we could have taken photos of us underwater and stuff. I really hope we or rather I can snorkel again.
.
Special thanks to Mr. Johan MArk Golbin for lending me his snorkel! Without which I wouldn’t have enjoyed the trip so much.
.
P.S.
I can still feel my body being dragged by the ocean current and it’s as if I’m still breathing through a snorkel nyahahaha
