gold and diamonds
Saturday, July 8th, 2006“Hindi kami bobo” That may be possibly true, after all in the real sense of the word, there is no such person who is bobo, stubborn maybe, stupid maybe, even idiotic and cretin-like, but not bobo, no, never bobo. Really, people who think that people think they are bobo, may well be on they’re way to being the first people to ever be officially one.
As for turning carbon into a diamond, unfortunately, time isn’t all it takes to turn those into what they are. Pressure, temperature, humidity, someone who studied this should know that time isn’t the only factor, the quality of carbon, the environment that it is in as well as its integrity so to speak, are all factors.
At present diamonds are being made artificially, for a short span of time you will have a stone, that doesn’t need to be mined, doesn’t need to be extracted from hard rock, and can be made in just a few months time, and it has the same chemical composition same hardness and maybe a bit more integrity, all without polluting the environment. However, they are not valued, why? Because people give too much credit on time past and don’t look at the possible price of time to come, it’s they’ve never heard of inflation for God’s sake.
As engineers, or future ones, we’ve studied the efficient use of energy and people still don’t appreciate the work that previous scientists and engineers have done for us. Their work makes our work easier. So why would you value an original mined diamond, on the process of which a few African families might have starved or even died, when you can have one made in a shorter span of time, in controlled conditions and less labor?
But what is a diamond anyway it’s just a piece of hard rock. What is its real use? Gold on the other hand is strong enough to resist corrosion, but fluid enough to be molded.
Sometimes, strength isn’t really a measure, just like time isn’t. In the real world, economy is what people choose. Strong enough but affordable, that is what people look for, what would you do with the excessive strength of a diamond if you can’t use it economically, if you can’t even find one LARGE enough to be of any use? Gold however, even in small quantities, can be melted, molded and made into a bigger bolder, whatever, pots, pans, microchips, anything.
Anyway, a diamond takes thousands, even millions of years to form, an original diamond I mean. If you’re going to make a real diamond, then you’ll need at least 99,948 years more. However, if I do find an urge to create such a useless rock, I would choose to get one that was made in a few months time. Heck, if I had one made I would have at least 8 by now, when they’re still waiting for theirs to come.
I am speaking metaphorically mind you. Imagination is a talent not a flaw.
